“It’s a crazy, amazing feeling” – Giorgi Grozer reached the Paris Olympics with the German volleyball team

The German men’s volleyball team – including György Grozer – has won a quota to participate in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.

The Germans secured their participation in the five-a-side tournament by winning the first six matches in the eight-team qualifying group in Rio de Janeiro – against Iran, Cuba, Brazil, Italy, the Czech Republic and Qatar in that order – and so, regardless of the results of the final round, they are certain to be the first two places to qualify. If they finish one of them and they will be in the 12-team Olympic field.

The 38-year-old Qatari-Hungarian striker helped his team with 23, 24, 27, 31, 14, and then 13 points, and was the best for his team in the first five matches.

“It’s a crazy, amazing feeling, I don’t even understand it. This tournament showed that you should never give up on your dreams. We didn’t either, and now we can go to Paris.” – Grozer said after the clash against the Qataris.

The German team’s last participation in the London Olympics was in 2012, when it was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

BL winner, Club World Champion, World Cup bronze medalist and European silver medalist Grózer moved abroad in 2002 with Vasas, Dunaferr and Kaposvár, and has since played in all the world’s major leagues. He will play in the Turkish Super League next season.
