He was very lucky that it didn’t turn out to be such a big deal, because if he swallowed what was in the cake, he would definitely end up in the hospital.
Dangerous ‘accessories’
He claims that a man bit off a three-centimeter piece of glass while eating an Aldi cheese and onion quiche. James Smith, 68, was having dinner at his home in Wellstanton, Staffordshire, when his teeth clenched into something hard.
He said he was “shocked and terrified” when he realized he had bitten off a piece of broken glass. The retired paramedic was even more terrified when he found another piece of glass searching around his plate. James told StokeonTrentLive: “It looked like a very long stem from a wine glass or a lab pipette. One of the pieces was about three centimeters long and the other four centimeters.
“As a former paramedic, I’ve seen what can happen when you swallow something sharp,” he said. James complained about what happened to him on his social media page, but Aldi said it would be “difficult to investigate” because there were other products on his plate. The supermarket indicated that it could not be certain whether the broken glass was from their product or from other food the man had eaten.
However, the supermarket chain offered James a £30 voucher “out of goodwill”. However, James called the show an “insult”. He said, “I don’t care about money. The bottle could have hit my mouth from the inside, my throat, my esophagus, my stomach.” Aldi said, “We regret that this product did not meet our usual high standards. We work closely with our suppliers to make sure all products undergo rigorous inspections and quality checks. We encourage Smith to return the product for a full refund. Check what matters with our suppliers.”
