Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence sprained his ankle during Monday night’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Bengals and will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Tom Pelissero reported.
Lawrence suffered the injury in the fourth quarter with the score tied 28-28 and 5:25 remaining. He was stepped on by his own offensive lineman, Walker Little, while running back, and then leaned back awkwardly while on the ground.
The Jags QB tried to get off the field but came back to the ground. He requested help from two coaches to return to the sidelines and into the tunnel for evaluation.
Lawrence received a questionable designation and did not return.
He was 22 of 29 for 258 yards and two touchdowns, plus a score on the ground, at the time of his departure.
Veteran backup CJ Beathard entered the game in relief after a field goal by Cincinnati and drove a 3-point shot of his own to help force overtime.
Beathard was unable to capitalize on the extra frame. The Jaguars had to punt after a 26-yard stop, after which the Bengals drove down for a game-winning field goal by Evan McPherson.
All eyes will now be on Lawrence’s MRI results, which could tell the story for the rest of Jacksonville’s season.
