Jerry Seinfeld joined “Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update” to poke fun at the press tour for his Netflix movie, “Unfrosted,” which tells the Pop-Tart's origin story.
Colin Jost introduced Seinfeld as “the guy who did a lot of journalism” in his Netflix film, which also marked Seinfeld's directorial debut. When Seinfeld joined the show, he pretended to be unsure of his whereabouts.
“Where exactly am I? Is this a podcast?” asked Ghost.
Jost explained to Seinfeld that he lives on “SNL” and watched him do a promo for his Netflix movie “Everywhere.” When asked how much press pressure he is under, Seinfeld responded: “You don't know until someone who cares about you shows you a video package and you see yourself with people with these names like Hoda, Mo Rocca, Chanel, Vlad.”
“I know I can't undo all the pressure I've done but I want to help others. If you're struggling with the press, you're not alone. 'I'm talking to you, Ryan Gosling,'” he continued. “When I started doing press for Unfrosted, I was like you. Funny and good looking. Now look at me. Do you think this is how I wanted to spend my 26th birthday? But you can get clean.”
The skit ended when Seinfeld accepted a call from Univision and began another round of press, asking Ghost to look for him on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
Unfrosted began streaming on Netflix on Thursday and has received mostly mixed and negative reviews. In addition to directing, Seinfeld co-wrote, produced and starred in “Unfrosted” as the Kellogg's employee who created the Pop-Tart. The film also stars Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, and others.
