The US media covered extensively the topic of the president’s birthday and its transformation into a political issue a year before the presidential election. American public opinion is widely discussing the physical and mental fitness of Joe Biden, who is preparing for re-election for another 4-year presidential term.
It is reported in the media that Joe Biden’s oldest political opponent, Donald Trump, is 77 years old, which is also well above the average age of presidential candidates.
ABC National TV cites a special poll it conducted with The Washington Post, which showed that 74 percent of Americans believe Joe Biden is too old to run for re-election. In the case of Donald Trump, 50% of those surveyed think so.
Reuters news agency published the results of a joint poll with the Ipsos pollster, stating that 77 percent believe that the current president is too old to be allowed another four-year term, and 65 percent of Democratic voters see the matter this way. 39% of those surveyed believe that the president’s “mental acuity” makes him suitable for his position. In the same poll, 56 percent of participants said that Donald Trump is too old to serve as president, while 54 percent said that his mental abilities make him suitable for the position.
Joe Biden usually responds to questions about his age by saying that his age and the experience that comes with him, as well as his half-century of political experience, are assets that enable him to deal with the challenges facing the United States.
