Current US Vice President Kamala Harris officially became the Democratic Party's presidential nominee on Friday in a vote of party delegates. Harris must decide on his running mate before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 19, and once that is announced, the two are expected to tour battleground states ahead of the US presidential election.
After US President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he was withdrawing from the Democratic presidential nomination, Kamala Harris became the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. She is the first black female presidential candidate in the United States, as well as the first presidential candidate of South Asian descent. If she defeats Donald Trump in the presidential election scheduled for November, she will be the first female president of the United States. In 2016, Hillary Clinton tried the same thing, but was defeated by Trump, who was then succeeded by Obama’s Vice President, Joe Biden, as President of the United States after one term.
