US President Joe Biden has temporarily delegated presidential powers to Vice President Kamala Harris. The vice president served as President of the United States for 85 minutes while Biden’s bowel examination was performed.
This was necessary because routine colonoscopy is being done in the President, the White House announced Friday.
Details of the president’s medical examination will be released Friday afternoon local time. The president, who celebrates his 79th birthday on Saturday, is under investigation at Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda, Washington.
White House spokesman Jen Psaki said:Since Joe Biden’s intervention will be conducted under sedation, the President will delegate powers to the Vice President for this term under the Constitution. This was last conducted during George W. Bush’s presidency, twice: President George W. Bush conducted the same investigation in 2002 and 2007.
A White House spokesperson said Vice President Kamala Harris will take over the presidency from his office.
Joe Biden is the oldest president in US history, with speculation about his health.
Update: Joe Biden has since regained the presidency and has been under anesthesia for 85 minutes.
