‘Frasier’ star Kelsey Grammer gave a BBC interview that was cut short by Paramount+ representatives this week after the conversation turned to his support for former US President Donald Trump, according to a radio host.
Justin Webb, co-host of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, noted that Grammer had mentioned actress and producer Roseanne Barr earlier in the interview, which aired on Monday.
Barr, a real-life Trump supporter, played Roseanne Conner, a fictional Trump supporter, in the hit reboot of the sitcom “Roseanne” in 2018. However, her show was later canceled by ABC. After the racist comments she posted on Twitternow known as X. Barr later apologized and indicated that she believed her behavior was as such Ambien sleep aids are affected.
Turning to politics, Webb asked Grammer if he was still a supporter of the former US president.
“I am,” Grammer said. “And I’ll let that be the end of it.”
After the segment ended, Webb continued to discuss Grammer’s comment.
“I have to say, actually, Kelsey Grammer himself was quite happy to keep talking about this,” Webb said.
“The PR people at Paramount+ are less than happy that he talked about it at length,” he said.
“They decided we had plenty of time to do our interview. But I must stress that he was perfectly happy to talk about why he supported Donald Trump and continues to support him in the upcoming election,” Webb added.
CNN has reached out to representatives for Paramount+ and Grammer for comment.
Grammer appeared on the BBC show to discuss the reboot of the hit 90s sitcom “Frasier,” which Paramount+ released in October.
The new chapter follows Frasier as he returns to Boston from Seattle “with new challenges to face, new relationships to form and an old dream or two to finally fulfill,” according to the series description on Paramount’s website.
Grammer plays the titular character, a pompous psychiatrist who originally appeared on the beloved 1980s sitcom “Cheers” before getting his own spin-off.
The original “Frasier” series ran for 11 years on the air, winning a record 37 Emmy Awards for a comedy series, becoming one of the most successful spin-offs in television history.
