There have long been rumors about the Meta Quest 3s, a more affordable version of the company's popular virtual reality headset with augmented and virtual reality functionality, with which Zuckerberg wants to bring the technology to more people.
Rumors of the Quest 3s (formerly known as the Quest 3 Lite) extended reality headset first surfaced in March of this year, but since then there hasn't been much news about the cheaper version. The other day a Loonian X/Twitter user name
Based on current leaks – just like the base model – the Meta Quest 3s will also be powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor on store shelves. The downgrade will be seen primarily in the display units, which will be LCD panels with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 and a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz (as opposed to the Meta Quest 3’s 2064 x 2208 pixel displays). The glasses also have four cameras and an action button.
Meta isn’t the only company trying to make the technology more widely available by making hardware more affordable. ByteDance, which oversees TikTok, has scheduled an August 20 reveal of its new product, which could be the Pico 4S, a mixed reality headset that serves as a lower-cost alternative.
It’s not yet known when Meta plans to officially unveil the well-priced glasses, so we can only speculate on pricing. According to the leaker, it could sell for under $300 (around HUF 108,000 excluding taxes), which really gives it every chance of reaching a new audience.
