Lena Dunham is determined to spread the message of “love and hope” with her new Netflix show.
The 37-year-old star has been busy working on Too Much – which focuses on a girl who moves from the US to London after a break-up – and Lena has given fans an insight into what they can expect.
Speaking about her “target audience”, Lena told Variety: “We are targeting girls who have moved away from a geographical location after a breakup. We have been filming for three weeks and it was an amazing experience.”
The new series will star the likes of Megan Stalter and Will Sharp, and Lena hopes the show will help spread some good vibes.
“I love a woman in crisis getting what she deserves in the good way. That's what we're aiming for on this show,” she said.
“Also, speaking of this time in the world, I'm trying to make something that's endearing and upbeat and hopefully still edgy and insightful and all the naughty scenes that people are used to from me, but with kind of an underlying, hopefully empowering, message of love and love.”
Lena is perhaps best known as the creator and writer of “Girls,” the hit HBO series that ran from 2012 to 2017, and the actress is amazed at the show's recent revival among young people.
“It's crazy and brutal and I didn't expect it,” she said.
“Me and the actors, when we get funny memes from someone, we share them. I'll be 38 in May; I started writing this show when I was 23. I felt like, 'If I do that pilot, wow, what a life experience.' So, the fact that there's someone – I mean people are still watching a show that was released before Instagram was invented?! What is this?”
