The highest heat alert level remains in effect in Sicily, where civil defense called in a crisis team on Monday to deal with the emergency caused by temperatures above 45 degrees.

For several days, water did not flow from the taps in Catania, whose population is just under three hundred thousand.

According to local water stations (Sidra) owned by the municipality, the city was “almost completely without water”.

The service provider explained the situation with interruptions in the power supply, and the power supply company indicated the extreme heat. The wires running under the melted asphalt, which heated to almost 50 degrees, became inoperable.

Power outages have also been reported from several other towns in Sicily.

And while storms and severe rains replaced the previous heat in the northern part of Italy, the heat wave has not yet receded in the southern provinces, which is expected to continue until Wednesday.

45 degrees are expected in Palermo and its region, and 48 degrees in the regions of Catania and Siracusa.

The scorching heat will remain for a while

Until late Monday afternoon, the weather is expected to be dry, clear or slightly cloudy in most parts of the country, but there may be cloudy areas from time to time, and there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms in a few places. The highest daytime temperature is expected between 31 and 36 degrees Celsius.

In the coming days, the thermometer will remain well above 40 degrees in Sardinia, and the forecast predicts that the temperature will reach 48 degrees.

The sea water temperature there is already over thirty degrees.

Relief is expected on the islands from Wednesday.

In Rome, 39 degrees Celsius is expected on Monday, after which the temperature will drop below 35 degrees in the following days.
