Debrecen was one of the centers of traditional Hungarian gingerbread making. In the city of Sevis, gingerbread of excellent quality, widely popular, was made and is still made today. Debrecen gingerbread has a special recipe, specific baking technique and distinctive shape, the most distinctive of which is the so-called wooden honey. The most distinctive and beautiful feature of gingerbread cookies made with hammers is the ornate large temple painting, coat of arms, knights, dolls and mirrored hearts. In our program on Wednesday, we visit the workshop of László Radix, the last representative of Debrecen gingerbread makers, where pies are still made using the traditional process dating back hundreds of years.
