Lukashenko agrees with Merkel that he is ready to negotiate with the EU over the migrant crisis, but the Poles do not like it

The Belarusian presidency said that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko agreed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Belarusian officials negotiate with the European Union to resolve the migrant crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border.

Merkel first spoke with Lukashenko by phone on Monday, then the trial lasted nearly an hour, and the second round took place on Wednesday.

Brussels and Poland accuse Lukashenko of deliberately causing the migrant crisis and directing thousands of illegal immigrants to the Polish state.

By the way, Lukashenko will not be recognized by the Union after Belarus’ legitimate victory in the elections with a controversial purity last year.

That is why Poland criticized Angela Merkel’s contact with the Belarusian leader. Government spokesman Peter Mueller said the phone conversation was, in part, an acknowledgment of Lukashenko’s election as president.

Witold Wasszkowski, a member of the European Parliament for Poland’s ruling party, said Merkel “agreed to the Belarusian dictator’s game” in a phone conversation. He added that Minsk, with the support of Moscow, caused the migrant crisis precisely in order to force the European Union to negotiate.

Wolfgang Schäuble, a politician with the German Christian Democratic Union, said one day on Wednesday in an interview However, he said, temporary entry into EU territory should be granted to people stranded on the Belarusian side of the border.

The politician believes that “unfortunately, dictatorships often abuse refugees as a means of applying pressure”. During the weeks-long crisis, he said, “the EU is basically doing the right thing.”

According to Schaeuble, all countries involved should be persuaded to stop flights carrying refugees from the Middle East to Belarus, and Poland should be helped in controlling the border. As he said, “a quick humanitarian solution is needed for desperate people”, their temporary entry into the EU must be guaranteed and asylum procedures implemented quickly in order to clarify their situation and “repatriate non-political persecuted”.

In addition, it must be clarified that “this is an exceptional one-time situation”, and a “humanitarian gesture” that “does not open up a permanent alternative to Europe”.

“The decision in 2015 to take in 30,000 refugees from Budapest was absolutely right,” said the CDU’s chief politician, but looking back, we “failed to counter the wrong message that anyone can come to Germany now,” regardless of whether was so. They are really persecuted.

“This cannot happen to us again with Belarus.”

According to Brussels, applicants to the European Union arrive in Belarus with the organization of Belarusian state-owned tourism companies. Since Monday, thousands have gathered at the Belarusian-Polish border in hopes of joining the European Union. The number of illegal border crossings has been increasing for weeks. The Polish government has mobilized tens of thousands of soldiers to stop the operation, who recently used water cannons to stop the trapped. (via MTI)
