The Paris-based leader confirmed his previous statement that NATO would send troops to Ukraine, even if the Russians managed to achieve a major breakthrough on the front. According to him, if Ukraine asks for help from the West, it is worth considering the extent to which it can help the country under invasion. According to Macron, the reason for this step is that Moscow apparently does not want to stop:
I am not ruling anything out, because we are dealing with a person who does not rule anything out. There is no doubt that we have hesitated a lot to define the limits of our actions towards those who no longer have them, and who is the aggressor!
He said he believed such a move could serve as a deterrent to Russia, as Vladimir Putin would avoid the possibility of engaging in open armed conflict with the Western defense establishment. He added that the first aggressive responses from the Kremlin prove that the proposal achieved the desired effect, as the Russians fear a similar step.
The French president also said that Russia cannot win in Ukraine, because security in Europe will be an illusion in the future. Moreover, there is no guarantee that Russian formations will stop in the Eastern European country, and new countries could easily be in Moscow's crosshairs. He also hinted that if Russia were to win, Europe might “collapse.”
