Due to low birth rates and the exodus of young families from the cities, many primary schools in England are already facing closure, as the number of students has fallen dramatically and so institutions receive less funding. According to an analysis, nearly two-thirds of 88 English enterprises had vacancies last year, which is also very serious. In the last 156 primary schools that closed more than a decade ago, the vacancy rate was 66% on average.
Last year, 570,000 primary school places remained vacant in the country, accounting for 11.5 percent of the total capacity. The Ministry of Education also expects that in the next ten years state-funded institutions The number of students may drop by another 944,000. According to the leading analyst at the Education Policy Institute, the number of students peaked in 2019 and has been steadily decreasing since then, and although the number of students in secondary schools is currently increasing, this trend may reverse there as well in the next school year.
Since schools in England are funded on the basis of the number of students, if the number of children attending the institution decreased, the leaders would have to run with less money. The problem affects urban schools most acutely: Half of the enterprises at risk operate in cities and a quarter in rural villages.
