The world’s largest meat processing company, JBS, has paid $11 million for those Hacked Write their own IT system BBC. The amount was reportedly settled in bitcoin.
The company was hit by a massive cyber attack last week, forcing it to temporarily close its operations in Australia, Canada and the United States. Although both the Australian Federal Police and the government were actively involved in resolving the problem, they ultimately failed to free the servers.
The company claims that it was forced to pay a ransom to protect its customers.

“It was a very difficult decision for our company and for me personally,” said Andre Nogueira, Director of JBS.
The FBI also launched an investigation, and the White House contacted the Russian government on suspicion that a group operating in Russia was behind the attack.
Founded in 1953 in Brazil, JBS now has more than 150 factories in 15 countries, employs 150,000 people, and provides plenty of meat for everyone, from supermarkets to fast food restaurants. In the United States alone, JBS handles a quarter of the country’s beef consumption and a fifth of its pork demand.
