Defending world champions Canada beat a resurgent Hungary 4-0 in a friendly attended by a record 14,925 fans at the MVM Dome.
The Hungarians returned to the top 16 by winning the Division I/A championship in Bolzano on Saturday, while the Canadians, with three Stanley Cup winners and one of today's big stars, Connor Bedard, are preparing for the World Cup in the Czech Republic starting Friday.
The two teams also met last year, when 14,756 spectators watched the visitors win 5-2. Before the match, they welcomed members of the women's national team, who returned to the elite two weeks ago, as well as Benseh Shirani, Tamas Bozsegai, Danielle Koger, Gerjo Nagy and Balint Magosi, who have retired from the national team.
Stanley Cup winner Colton Parayko took the lead with a powerful shot in the third minute, and play continued in the Hungarian third. The home team was able to test fellow NHL champion Jordan Binnington from time to time.

At the end of the first period, viewers can throw plush figures onto the ice, which will be given to sick children.
At the start of the second half, Hungary were forced to score in their own third, but the Canadians created few clear-cut chances in the first five or six minutes. Early in the seventh minute, a cross was slowed on Nelson's stick. The ball flowed to Byram, who tapped into an empty net, doubling the visitors' advantage. The Hungarians moved noticeably tired, but they tried to capitalize on their one or two jumping opportunities, while the outside keeper played increasingly hard, and even before the second break, Bauer scored again. That last goal was actually scored by Dominik Horvath, who replaced Bales midway through the second half and did some great work.
During the second intermission, Koger and Gergo Nagy performed a table tennis demonstration on the ice.
Even in the latter stages, Canada played with a big advantage, but although they had plenty of jumps and clear shooting positions, Dominik Horvat blocked everything. Meanwhile, two or three promising Hungarian jumps remained unused, and in the end, the visitors scored a goal with a man difference – indeed, by Roland Farkas – and set the final score at 4-0.
