This isn't the first time the company has tried to shove something in our faces that we don't care about at all.
After the ads in the Start menu in Windows 11, ads have recently appeared in the operating system's weather forecast panel, but it seems that the campaign of the people of Redmond is not over yet: this time, Microsoft has started to harass users not with ads, but with unavoidable pop-up notifications.
Many people have reported the phenomenon that Windows 11 has recently started showing more and more information about cloud backups. It is a fact that users are constantly being notified that their system has not been backed up yet using Windows’ built-in security solution.
This in itself might be a positive, but it’s clear that the company doesn’t draw users’ attention to this out of pure kindness. As you know, backups made by the Windows Backup app are stored in Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud service, which has a limited capacity. The free version of OneDrive offers 5GB of storage space for backups, which isn’t a lot at all, especially if you back up all your files on your device — as Microsoft recommends.
Accordingly, it is quite clear that Microsoft wants to direct users towards OneDrive and buy storage space there, which is also confirmed by the fact that the notification for cloud backup cannot be turned off. Of course, we can click on the notification, this will remove the annoying message from our eyes temporarily, but it will appear again in due course.
Of course, it is not a bad idea to back up the most important data, but we do not necessarily use Microsoft OneDrive for this purpose. In this article, we have collected a number of alternatives that can be useful if we keep the contents of some folders in sync.
