Google did not send the September update to the version of the Pixel 4a with an LTE modem, confirming that support for the smartphone has ended forever. According to plans, the device would have received its latest update in August this year, and since other Pixel models have already received the latest update, we could see this as confirmation of the end of support, even if there is no separate announcement from Google.
Google’s mid-range devices usually succeed quite convincingly, but that wasn’t the case with the 4G version of the Pixel 4a. Most people didn’t even understand why the search giant was launching the mobile phone at all, as a sort of minimal improvement over the 3a, and shortly before the Pixel 5’s launch in 2020.
When the Android 14 developer preview and public beta started rolling out to Pixel models, the Pixel 4a 4G was not on the list of supported devices. Users could not participate in the test because Google never planned to update the smartphone further.
It is worth noting that there is also a version of the phone equipped with a 5G modem, which is a completely different device. This model is eligible for Android 14, so if you own this phone, you don’t have to worry at all. Furthermore, the phone will receive minor patches and updates for another year, although Android 14 will be the last major version to reach it.
