Most travelers are willing to pay more for sustainability






According to the latest report by Euromonitor International, nearly 80 percent of travelers would be willing to pay at least 10 percent to make their trip less harmful to the environment.







the Euromonitor Sustainable Travel Index 2023 Its report also reveals that 41 percent of travelers are willing to pay 30 percent more for adventure- and ecotourism-related experiences.

17 of the 20 most sustainable countries are located in Europe. Sweden took first place, followed by Finland in second and Austria in third. According to the report, Uruguay, a South American destination, entered the top 20 for the first time, jumping an impressive 15 places from last year’s result.

Melbourne has set an ambitious goal of net zero emissions by 2040, leading Euromonitor’s index of best city destinations, followed by Madrid and Seville. These Spanish cities participate in the Net Zero Cities initiative, created with a total of 112 European cities committed to achieving net zero emissions.

The ten most sustainable cities according to the Euromonitor report:

  9. Lisbon
  10. Munich

In terms of demand for sustainable tourism, Australia, Iceland and New Zealand are among the top three destinations. They are long-term destinations and attract travelers who tend to stay longer. New Zealand stands out in particular for its commitment to renewable tourism, which goes beyond mere sustainability and seeks to create a positive legacy that benefits future generations while giving back to the environment.

In August, the Seychelles government imposed an environmental tax on tourists, allocating the proceeds for sustainability purposes.
