Motherwell midfielder Harry Paton is determined to seize his final chance with Canada after a false start to his international career.
The 25-year-old, who has never played internationally, has been named in the squad to face Japan in a friendly match in Niigata on October 13.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “It’s a great feeling. To be able to represent your country is a dream for me.
“I had a bit of a whiff of it before when I was called up for the Gold Cup. I didn’t make my international debut but I’m looking forward to making my debut and playing for my country.”
That experience in the United States in 2021 proved frustrating for the then Ross County midfielder.
“It was tough for me,” Patton said. “It was at the height of Covid. I flew there and ended up getting Covid when I landed. I had to quarantine.
He added: “I trained with them when I was off the field, but I was only ready for the quarter-finals and semi-finals, so it was difficult to be involved directly.”
“But I still had a good feeling of what they wanted and I felt I showed myself well there.
“I just want to get going and hopefully I can keep my place in the team moving forward.”
Button goes into Saturday’s Premier League clash against Livingston in good form after shaking off the nuisance after re-signing for the club ahead of the new season.
“When I came, I had a slight injury to my thigh, which set me back a little,” he said. “But I have been working with the staff and cheering them on to get fit and ready.
“I’ve been trying to get that consistency. I feel really fit now and I’ve enjoyed the football I’m playing.”
