If the race had been one lap shorter, everything would have changed. Maybe even the World Cup.
It was a time of judgment in Australia over the weekend as the main MotoGP race was moved to Saturday, but that wasn’t the only surprise. In Moto3, at the end of a chaotic race, CFMoto’s Kelso took the first podium of his life at his home track – behind Ongo and Sasaki – and in Moto2, Acosta fell on the first lap and broke his bike, so it was only from the end of the field that he could start. Acosta’s situation was further complicated by the fact that the race was stopped, so he could only catch ninth place, while his rival Arbolino beat Canet and Aldeguer. The young KTM rider can take solace in the fact that only half the points were awarded due to the brevity of the race, so he continues to lead the World Championship with confidence.
In the King class, a more dramatic battle took place, as World Championship aspirant Martin led the entire race with a confident advantage, but on the last lap the soft compound Ducati tire was so worn that he overtook the rider. His successor, who started on stronger tires, took four seconds and thus only finished fifth.
Bagnaia, who had a bad training session, saved valuable points after he finished second behind Zarco, who achieved his first victory in his life in motorcycles (!), and Di Giannantonio also managed to stand on the podium in Australia. Since the weather was not suitable for racing the next day, the speed race was not organized, meaning that the points standings did not change after the end of Saturday. The drivers cannot rest for a minute, as they will appear at the Thai circuit on Thursday. The next race weekend begins in three days, and this year the world’s best bikers will face off four more times.
