The Russian and Ukrainian delegations are expected to hold a second round of talks on a possible ceasefire on Thursday, a week after the start of the Russian invasion, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported.
The report stated that Vladimir Mizhinsky, head of the Russian delegation, said that the Ukrainian side is already on its way to the trial site.
The two sides agreed that the site would be in the Brest region in western Belarus. The Russian army set up a “security corridor” to get the Ukrainian delegation there.
The Ukrainian side confirmed that it agreed to hold talks, but did not say anything else. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry in Kyiv urged Russia to declare a ceasefire in the hard-hit Kharkiv and Sumy regions in eastern Ukraine to bring civilians to safety.
The first round of talks on the Belarus-Ukraine border on Monday did not produce tangible results. Russian forces continued their advance on Wednesday, with several explosions recorded in Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday morning and the sound of air defense sirens.
Ukrainian media reported that eight people, including two children, were killed in an air strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Izgum, near Kharkiv. Details cannot be verified from an independent source.
On Wednesday, Alexei Aristovich, Adviser to the Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office said on Ukrainian State TV 24 that the second round of Ukraine-Russia talks will take place in the evening and that the delegations will continue their discussions in the previous configuration.
A Russian source told the Russian news agency TASO, on Tuesday, that the next round of talks will be held on the Belarusian-Polish border in Belarus.
In Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, two missiles landed in an administration building and a cathedral was damaged. There is no information available on possible infections.
In Korosten, north of Zhytomyr in western Ukraine, authorities said two people were killed and five wounded in an air strike on a large checkpoint.
