Netflix is testing a joint plan with French retailer Carrefour in a pilot project to attract more customers for its cheapest subscription.
Bloomberg remind meAmazon is already using a similar model to increase Prime Video subscribers.
Customers in Bordeaux and Rouen are being offered a standard ad-supported Netflix subscription for €5.99 per month (about 2,200 HUF) in a package that includes a 10 percent discount on Carrefour-branded supermarket products and free delivery on orders over €60.
If enough users sign up for the beta, the offer could be extended to the whole of France.
“Thanks to this partnership, we hope to make our series, films and games more accessible to a new audience,” said Laurent Oguin, Chief Sales Officer at Netflix.
Netflix has long been looking for ways to promote its lower-priced plan, which launched in 2022 and had reached 15 million customers worldwide by last November.
