Netflix is teaming up with Roblox to launch its own “digital theme park” on the online gaming platform. The web-based universe, called “Nextworld,” will feature characters and content from Netflix IP including “Stranger Things,” “One Piece,” “Cobra Kai” and “Rebel Moon.”
The show debuts in Early Access on Wednesday on Roblox.
“Once you enter Nextworld — your central hub in the Netflix universe — you can delve deeper into the series and movies you love,” Netflix wrote in a blog post. (Think: a digital theme park filled with characters, Easter eggs, and games.) Immersive games like “Stranger Things: Escape from Hawkins High,” “One Piece: East Blue Brawls,” and “Rebel Moon: Outskirts Battles.” Connect you with your favorite characters In a whole new way. While you're there, say hello to Dustin from Stranger Things, Luffy from One Piece, and Jimmy from Rebel Moon, some of whom may guide you through your quests and you never know who else you might encounter.
Although Roblox itself is a free-to-play online gaming platform, users are able to purchase “Robux,” an in-game currency used to purchase virtual objects.
Netflix's interactive 3D spaces in “Nextworld” on Roblox feature mini-games, including one inspired by the competition series “Is It Cake?” And one where you can test your karate skills inside the Cobra Kai Dojo. Users can “Streamship” within the Roblox universe to attend online events such as premieres and viewing parties, including a preview of “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” on May 17, and watch daily content segments in the “Tudum Theater.”
According to Netflix, “As you adventure through Nextworld, you can collect objects and wearables from different shows and movies to decorate your Fan Pod, your own private space that you can keep for yourself or open to friends. As you build more currency through challenges in Nextworld, You'll be able to expand your collection with more exclusive items including free limited user-generated content (UGC) like the Demogorgon Plushie Head or the One Piece Flag.
