Netflix movie could help US win Olympic medal

Chile’s lawyers filed an appeal with Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court on Monday to overturn the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision that named Romania’s Ana Barbosu the bronze medalist in the floor exercise at last month’s Paris Games. Chiles was awarded the medal on Aug. 5 after judges adjusted Chiles’ score at the request of her coach, Cecile Landi, moving the UCLA gymnast from her original fifth place finish to third.

But days later, after a hearing requested by Romanian officials, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Landi's investigation had exceeded the one-minute period during which gymnasts' coaches can file a complaint after they have been awarded a score by four seconds, so the IOC awarded Barboso the bronze medal and restored Chiles to fifth place.

USA Gymnastics immediately appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, presenting video evidence that allegedly showed Landy's action occurred 47 seconds after Chiles' score was posted, within the allotted time period. However, the appeal was denied.

According to the court document filed in German, Walsh reached out to Landy after Chile's decision to express his support. Landy asked if the director had any footage of what happened after Chile's floor exercise, and ended up with a video that included footage from all three Religion of Sport cameras that were at the event, as well as NBC's live coverage and a running clock. The recordings were also made attached.

Two seconds later, the documents state, Landy can be heard verbally objecting while a technical assistant is seen making eye contact with him and acknowledging receipt of the objection.

Landy said to appeal at least one more time before the 60-second time limit expires.
