It also offers existing customers the cheapest ad-free subscription.
Despite initial skepticism, the ad-supported monthly subscription model appears to be a major financial success for Netflix, and based on this, the company actually launched its basic ad-free package in some countries last July. Ad-supported subscriptions are not yet available here, so the company has kept the relevant basic tariff, which costs 2,490 Hungarian forints per month.
Netflix is now conducting its latest business maneuver Announce, that in a country where it is no longer possible to subscribe to the basic ad-free package, it will soon be withdrawn from old customers as well. They will only be able to continue using the service by switching to another package, meaning they will either switch to the cheaper, ad-supported Basic with Ads package, or to the much more expensive Premium.
According to the video player, the basic ad-supported package has become extremely popular, in the fourth quarter of last year it accounted for 40 percent of newly launched subscriptions in the countries where it is available, achieving a 70% increase compared to the third quarter.
