Netflix has now cracked down on people sharing their passwords with others around the world. Anyone found to be providing access to the service to unauthorized people will either have their stowaway filter removed from their account or be charged an additional fee, the latter of which is an additional fee of 1,190 Hungarian forints per guest seat here.
The company has now started a new experiment in some markets, offering a cheaper ad-supported surcharge option. That’s not available here, but it is in Germany, for example, where the surcharge is basically €4.99 per guest seat, while the new ad-supported option costs €3.99.
By choosing the cheapest option, the host saves 1 euro per guest per month, which is not a huge amount. However, since then, guests will have to endure ads while using Netflix, their user experience will be significantly worse.
As such, the new additional fee option seems somewhat pointless, as anyone who wants to pay Netflix for family and friends likely won't be spending that much.
An interesting related point is that at the beginning of September, Amazon Prime Video, a competitor to Netflix, became more expensive here, and the Fallout series can also be watched on it.
