Elgato's upcoming Stream Deck support gives you a whole new way to control your iPad.
Exciting news for iPad users: Elgato Stream Deck support is coming to iPadOS later this year, opening up new possibilities for Apple tablet users. iPad is one of Apple’s most versatile devices, and thanks to its rich ecosystem of accessories, it can be used in a variety of ways, whether as a tablet, a laptop, a notebook, or even a TV screen.
Stream Deck for iPad coming later this year
Rather than launching new hardware exclusively for iPad, Elgato has created a Stream Deck Kit that developers can use to build Stream Deck support into their existing iPad apps. Once Stream Deck support is available, you’ll be able to control iPad apps using physical buttons and switches that developers can fully program.
Currently, the project is in alpha stage and is scheduled to be released to the public in 2024.
How will Stream Deck work with iPadOS?
Once iPad support is officially launched, users will need to download the Stream Deck Connect app for the setup process. According to Elgato’s documentation, the Stream Deck Connect app contains the driver needed to communicate with physical Stream Deck devices. Users can download this from the Apple App Store and activate the driver within iPadOS settings. They will then be ready to use Stream Decks with any iPadOS app that integrates the Elgato Stream Deck for iPad SDK.

For actual setup, all you need to do is plug the Stream Deck into your iPad’s USB-C port or into a compatible USB-C hub. Due to the unique limitations of iPadOS, Stream Decks won’t be able to perform app actions while in the background, as they can on macOS. But when an app is in the foreground, a connected Stream Deck can provide a variety of actions that can be performed using its controls.
