The contract to design and build the bridge was won in 2018 by a consortium of Italy’s Astaldi and Japan’s IHI Infrastructure Systems, the former responsible for 60 percent of the works. The Romanian portfolio of Astaldi (which, by the way, also built the aforementioned third Bosphorus bridge with a Turkish company) recently exceeded one billion euros: a few days ago, they won public procurement for the construction of a 30-kilometer new motorway linking the cities of Sibiu and Pitesti worth 356 million euros.
