Still Standing Waters in Italy was the first series from Netflix in Italy which was produced in April.
The protagonist of Zero is a young black Italian who uses his superpowers to unravel many mysteries and crimes.
“When I was young, I didn’t see anyone in Italy who looked like me or embody who I am,” says protagonist Giuseppe Dave Secchi. – I’ve only seen role models abroad. There are still many second generation blacks living in Italy today, and this is not noticed in the cinema. It’s a big victory for me to be the hero of an Italian series about blacks.
The series’ authors see their work as helping to alleviate suspicions about other people of color in other countries in Italy.
“I always say that Italy is a country of tradition rather than a country of racism,” says Antonio Dekel Distefano, the series’ screenwriter. Change is slow in a country so attached to tradition. But I believe that by writing novels and scripts, we can change things.
Over the past period, Ntelfix has increasingly focused on producing products for local language markets with local content creators outside the United States.
“It feels good for us here in Italy and for me personally to be able to take part in this,” says Daniela Scatulin, the protagonist of the novel. Zero is not just a job, it’s a contribution to change.
The series is not only run by Netflix in Italy, but it is translated into many European languages and offered worldwide by the streaming service provider.
