The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3 to 2 in the NHL semifinals in Game Six of the semifinals, winning the duel 4–2. The Canadians are the first Canadian team in a Stanley Cup Final since the 2011 final in Vancouver against Boston. The last time Montreal made it to the finals was in 1993, when it won the tournament as the last Canadian club.

Montreal took the lead through Shea Weber in the first quarter, but Reilly Smith equalized within 48 seconds. In the second 20 minutes, Cole Caufield – who, like Webber – scored his first playoff goal of the year – benefited the home team, as Vegas tied again in the second minute of the third quarter with Alec Martinez.
The extension decided whether the duel would continue: Artturi Lehkonen defeated the Canadians in the 99th second of overtime, so he will not return to Montreal-Las Vegas but will play in the final with the winner of Game Seven of the Tampa Bay Lightning-New Yorkers duel.
