And with Thursday’s first round of 25 matches, his chances of making it to the finals quickly evaporated.
Norbert Hegye finished the men’s primary trap event with a score of 121 and finished 27th on Thursday at the Baku World Shooting Olympic Qualification Championships.
The only Hungarian member of the field of 136 hit brilliantly on Wednesday, scoring 74 from 75 balls, so he was in the immediate lead, at No. 11, waiting to continue on Thursday.
On the second day of competition, two more series of 25 awaited the shooters. In the first, Hegi missed the seventh ball, then hit the next 16 in a row, but a mistake fell back on his 24th shot again, to finish the stage with 23 strikes. Thus, his chances of reaching the finals practically diminished, and he fell to the thirtieth place.
Norbert Hegi, who performed well throughout the tournament, made only one mistake in the last round, adding 24 balls to his previous performance, and his 121 strikes mean him 27th.
The strength of the field is shown by the fact that no fewer than 123 shots were required in the eight finals, but the seven athletes who finished with two fouls still had to shoot, with only six places remaining in the finals behind Slovakian Marian Kovacosi and Kuwait’s Halide. Al-Mudhaf, and they shot 124 records.
The men’s trap was the last Olympic event to have Hungarian participants in the World Cup. In Baku, the Hungarian team took the Paris quota in the women’s air pistol thanks to Sara Fabian, who finished fourth.
