Most companies align their major GUI versions with major Android versions, but there's nothing a little different. Nothing tries to follow a separate path, which is welcome, and on the software front, thanks to this, users receive more improvements during the year compared to other manufacturers.
When the Android version goes up, Nothing OS only delivers half a release, and the major version is only updated later. Android 13 was launched with Nothing OS 1.5, and Android 14 came to life on the company's smartphones with Nothing OS 2.5. However, Nothing OS 3.0 is already being prepared, and will bring important innovations during the fall.
In August, he didn't really talk about the next big update, and then hinted that the GUI was facing interesting changes. Users will be able to customize the lock screen to suit their individual needs. In addition to the clock, widgets will be able to appear, in which it will be possible to operate many frequently used functions without opening the screen. There will also be new interactive animation elements, thanks to which the operating system will be more interesting.
It was also previously revealed that Nothing is being set up with the new Gallery app, and a Community app will also be coming, which will access and manage the Nothing community. Nothing pays close attention to listening to the community, regularly serves community requests with updates, and I would like to continue doing so in the future.
Now the company has said about Nothing OS 3.0 that not only the locked screen will undergo a functional and visual revamp, but also the quick settings panel. For example, the auto brightness option will already be available on the brightness adjustment bar, and there is no need to set a separate switch for this. This way, more options can be squeezed onto the available surface. Until now, the quick panel could be opened in two steps, but after the update it will be possible to swipe to the side, and notifications will remain visible at the bottom, while other keys will also be accessible.
The Dot Animation Engine is introduced, which takes Nothing's dot matrix graphics to a new level with a new animation engine. Various transitions will be smoother, interface dynamics will be better, so users can enjoy a more immersive experience when tapping on their smartphone. The animations displayed in the fingerprint reader will also be new, and the shortcut associated with the weather app will also be based on a dot matrix display.
Not surprisingly, artificial intelligence is coming too. Carl Pei hinted at the beginning of the year that the Nothing Phone's next flagship model would be delayed this year partly because the company is focusing on AI developments. The use of the company's devices will be supported by artificial intelligence in several ways, and interestingly, for example, it will be able to help organize and sort software according to its capabilities, making it easier to review and access it. Automatic image sorting will also appear, and machine learning will also help in image search.
Developers are also working on upscaling images to a higher resolution using generative AI, while the company's own image creation tool is also coming. However, these programs will likely not launch immediately with Nothing OS 3.0, but will be added in a later update. From there, nothing will ship MI features as regularly as other vendors.
Nothing also indicates that the new GUI will turn out to be higher performance through various optimizations. Apps will generally take less time to launch, and all animations will run more smoothly than before. In the new Gallery app, animations between photo pages are 40 percent faster for a better user experience. Creating HDR photos and portraits will be 25% faster.
The beta version of Nothing OS 3.0 will start in October, and it will be possible to install it on supported mobile phones from then on, but bugs may still appear, as is the case with all beta versions. According to the current situation, the final edition could be assembled by December. The update schedule will be announced by the company at a later time.
