Barack Obama stated that after Trump was elected in 2016, progress in the fight against climate change has stalled. The former Democratic president challenged the previous administration’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, which the United States concluded during his tenure. Obama writes he didn’t mention Trump by name Forbes.
The 44th President of the United States said that despite Trump’s hostility to the environment, the work of state and local governments and the investments already made in clean energy allowed America to move forward.
Obama says President Joe Biden has helped the United States change direction and believes Biden’s plan to build back better will help the United States build a more sustainable future.
Barack Obama also added that he was frustrated by the absence of Chinese President Chen Cheng and Russian President Vladimir Putin from the conference, noting that they lead two countries with the highest greenhouse gas emissions.
