Tomorrow (March 9) at 7pm, the identity of Volkswagen ID.Buzz will finally be revealed, a purely electric bus based on the MEB floorboard, which will be launched in the first round in a 5-seater passenger and freight version. A longer wheelbase version will be available later, which will also be available in a 7-person version. Herbert Diess, director of the Volkswagen Group, does not hide the fact that this project is at its peak.
Before the world premiere, the manufacturer also released some photos and internal specifications. The interior photos do not bear any serious developments Some unofficial photos were released at the end of January to the Internet. We already knew from the unofficial photos that the back seat of the five-person version will tilt one-third to two-thirds, which means you won’t get three separate seats.
Factory photos also showed the back row of the front seats, so it was clear that only the outer two seats had an isofix mounting point, so for a family of three, even such a huge car is not necessarily hardcore. It was not at all surprising that the back row of most cars had an ergonomically shaped seat for only 2 passengers, but the minibus was expected to be really comfortable to carry 5 people, which means it can seat 3 people in the back.
However, no one can complain about the size of the trunk. The five-person version of ID.Buzz has 1,121 liters of luggage space and ID.Buzz Cargo has 3.9 cubic meters of cargo space behind the front row of bulkheads.
We also learned from the press release that Buzz’s color range will consist of seven monochromes and four two-tones. In the case of the two-tone versions, the white color is combined with the new colors, which are also reflected in the interior, that is, the exterior color also appears on the seat cushions, door trims and dashboard. The car features T1 (first generation transmission) style elements and some Buzz embellishments adorning the interior. You’ll also get handy accessories like a bottle opener and an ice scraper.
In the name of sustainability, there are no animal-derived materials on the bus at all. Alternatives with similar characteristics and appearance are used instead of leather. The steering wheel is made of polyurethane, but it gives it the same quality as if it were leather and a similar feel. Seat covers, floor and ceiling coverings are made from recycled materials. One of the SEAQUAL fabrics® Yarn with thread approx. 10% of marine plastics are approx. 90 percent PES (PET bottle recycled). Buzz is the first Volkswagen to contain 71% recycled materials.
