Jewish Cemetery on Salgotarjani Street // Place + Forum of Architects
Budapest's most unique Jewish cemetery will be 150 years old this year. Béla Lajta designed huge cemeteries and a funeral home here, and members of many Jewish families with a long history are buried here, among which the Hatvany-Deutsch family mausoleum stands out for its size. The cemetery was closed in the 1950s. Its special atmosphere is given by the tombs that combine ancient decorations with modern forms, and the nature forest that is gradually recovering.
