Papal Mass – Kossuth tér It was crowded, a big crowd in the city centre

You can get to Kossuth Square for the papal mass from 6 in the morning, but by 7 in the morning there were almost no empty seats. Meanwhile, the crowd is still pouring towards the field, even though the gates are currently closed.

The crowd is still trying to get in, but Kossuth tér, unapproachable from Jászai Mari tér, is quite full, and people are giving each other tips on where to go on the tram – for now, most people from Nyugati are trying – reports telex.

The Nyugati Tunnel is also quite full, and you can only travel slowly in crowded lines in all directions, whether you’re trying to go towards Jászai or head towards Deák. A man in the crowd complains of “bad organisation”, and a couple says it was incomprehensible that the program wasn’t linked to free registration, because “apparently they couldn’t assess how many people were coming. But it became chaotic”.

There was a large security check before entry, and everyone’s bag was checked. The space was divided into sections, and people were sitting on chairs everywhere. Just at the edge of the square are people standing in a crowd of several rows.

The Divine Liturgy starts at 9:30 am and this is the program planned for Kossutt Square:

6:00 a.m. The faithful enters the enclosed Kossuth Square, where the Pope will celebrate Sunday Mass on the last day of his visit to Hungary.

7:30 Beginning of the rosary prayer.

8:15 You can enter the square until this time at the latest. The security rules seen in the basilica will also be in effect in Kossuth Square: it is forbidden to bring in alcoholic beverages, bottles, thermoses, drones or other remote-controlled devices, bicycles or scooters, live animals (except assistance and guide dogs), and any The symbols of that banner, Molino, which do not correspond to the spirit of the event.

08:40 – 9:00 Pope arrives in the field.

9:00 a.m. Pope Francis greets the faithful gathered in Kossuth Square from the papal mobile phone.

9:30 a.m. The Pope holds Mass in Kossuth Square. In advance, hundreds of thousands of people were expected at the Mass: there will be 20,000 seats in Kossuth Square. Those who didn’t get a seat could follow the block on projectors placed in the surrounding streets.

10:45 Regina Cooley, i.e. the ancient Latin hymn to Mary of the Catholic Church.

11:10 End of the official program.

The gates were open from the early hours of the morning, and places were filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For those who could not find a place in the square, projectors are provided in the surrounding streets, where they can follow the Mass.
