In a new interview, the Japanese studio has revealed more about its plans (while we’re also expecting a Nintendo Switch exclusive Bayonetta 3 to be released at the end of October).
Japanese For Famitsu Inaba Atsushi, Kamiya Hideki, and newly joined Yamane Takeo talked about the changes within the company (they’re so serious that they refer to it as PlatinumGames Reborn) and their upcoming projects. These include Project GG, and Kamiya says the game has grown significantly since its initial announcement thanks to ideas from the rest of the team. It was originally meant to be a simple action game, but it has become a lot more since it was announced.
They will have basic gameplay mechanics similar to Unite Morph seen in The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta’s Witch Time. Kamiya added that the studio will not reveal more details about the game before 2023, so until then there is no point in speculating when or in what year it will be released, because Kamiya admitted: If necessary, he will postpone the release of his game. As long as necessary, if it’s good enough, start with quality.
PlatinumGames is also working on a new internally generated IP. All we know about her is that she will be huge and will need more people for all future projects. The goal is to reach a thousand employees. Back to Project GG: In announcing 2020, Inaba hinted that it wasn’t far from a release, but that scaling it up would require more development time. At the time, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch were the four targets, later with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, but until then he didn’t know when the game would be ready, but he couldn’t wait for that. It’s time to be three years, but he didn’t even say 6-12 months about his first self-owned game and published it himself.
So we’ll have to wait for the next Kamiya game, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if it finally hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC in late 2023.
