Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and several of her friends are taken away by police from a demonstration against the demolition of Lützerath in Germany and its conversion into a pottery mine. Writes Politico. Thunberg was summoned to leave the area, but she did not do so, and was forced to leave.
Protests have been going on for days in the evacuated village of North Rhine-Westphalia, and on Saturday more than ten thousand protesters arrived from all over Germany. There were also chaotic scenes after a few thousand people tried to reach the mine and breached the police cordon. According to the authorities, seventy policemen and nine activists were injured in the clash.
Greta Thunberg previously said that it was completely absurd that this would happen in 2023. According to him, science has clearly stated that there is no need for further extraction, and Germany should be ashamed of itself.
There are demonstrators who have been living in the village for two years, Deutsche Welle reported on the eviction. The authorities must remove everyone from the area within four weeks.
