Signature collection has begun in the European Parliament (EP) on a motion of censure against the European Commission (EC) led by Ursula von der Leyen.

This was started by three members of the Renew Europe group after the European Commission approved Poland’s 36 billion recovery plan. According to liberal politicians, this was hasty, since Warsaw did not even meet the conditions set by the European Court of Justice, and the Poles could not get a penny from the stimulus fund until they complied with all the rulings of the European Court of Justice regarding respect for the rules of law.

They plan to file a censure order as soon as von der Leyen starts disbursing the money. The proposal requires the signature of 10 percent of the members and adoption by a qualified majority.

The Polish recovery plan is not enough for approval by the European Commission In any case, the last word will be given by the Council of Finance Ministers, which is unlikely to take place before July. The plenum of the European Parliament will discuss the matter on Tuesday evening, and a decision will be made on Thursday. MEPs invited the chair of the commission to the discussion, but he sends the economic commissioners in his place, which also reassured the European Parliament.
