Putin made grandiose announcements and visited wounded soldiers for the first time

Putin visited the Central Military Hospital in Moscow, named after Peter Mandrake, accompanied by Defense Minister Sergei Soigo. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the head of state was regularly informed of the condition of wounded soldiers and that his schedule now allowed him to visit them in person.

At the meeting of the Presidium of the Russian State Council, Putin said that all participants in the “special operation” against Ukraine are “heroes” and should be treated as such. He drew attention to the need to pay special attention to the medical care of soldiers and social support to the relatives of the wounded and dead.

He said they would raise salaries for those involved in the fighting, and announced that Russia would raise pensions and the minimum wage by 10 percent from June 1. He expressed his belief that inflation this year will not exceed 15 percent.
