In recent weeks, artillery and drone attacks have regularly hit the internationally recognized Russian territory from the territory of Ukraine: they mainly attack the Belgorod region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a press conference today, where, among other things, the question was raised whether the Russian military plans to defend these regions.
If Ukraine continues these attacks, we must think about creating security zones on its territory so that it cannot reach us.
said the Russian president.
Most of the attacks against Belgorod and Kursk are carried out from the Kharkiv and Sumy provinces of Ukraine, and everything means that the Russian army will have to start new military operations in the previously surrendered Ukrainian lands. The range of most Ukrainian artillery systems is between 20 and 80 kilometers: the city of Kharkiv 20 kilometers, the city of Sumy 35 kilometers from the Russian border. During the invasion that began last year, Russian forces attempted to occupy the two settlements, but failed in both cases.
Perhaps the creation of “security zones” will mean that Russian forces will have to push 20-80 kilometers into the territory of Ukraine in these areas, and therefore the range of Ukrainian artillery systems will be outside the internationally recognized borders of Russia.
