Qualcomm has announced a new chip, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 with a 4nm manufacturing process, which is now official. The new model is positioned somewhere below the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, but the manufacturer promises that the new product will provide them with a great artificial intelligence experience. They cast their votes in favor of the affordable smartphone category.
There is already a lot of interest in the new chipset, and among other things it will be used by partners like Realme or Sharp. Mobile phones powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 will be released sometime in the coming months. But before them, Xiaomi will launch a device equipped with this chip in September.
The novelty offers a 20 percent better processor and 40 percent improved graphics performance compared to the 7s Gen 2 chipset, and AI capabilities will be 30 percent better, while the chip is 12 percent more energy efficient. From a processor standpoint alone, the new chip could reduce power consumption by up to 45 percent.
The primary CPU core runs at 2.5GHz, three additional power-oriented cores can go up to 2.4GHz, and there are four more power-efficient cores running at 1.8GHz.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 handles up to 16GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Thanks to the built-in AI engine, it is also possible to perform AI tasks on the device. The chipset supports AI-based noise filtering and noise reduction, 200MP photography, and 4K HDR video recording.
The role of the image processing unit is played by the Spectra Triple ISP, which enables taking photos and recording movies, with the promise of lightning-fast parallel processing and smooth zooming.
The new Qualcomm chipset boasts Full HD+ resolution, 144Hz displays, and supports Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 and variable rate shading methods within games, which can dynamically render different objects within a given scene. Then there’s Adreno HDR Fast Blend and the Vulkan 1.3 API among the supported technologies.
In addition to the above, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset also supports mmWave, sub-6 GHz, SA and NSA 5G networks, Wi-Fi 6E standards, Bluetooth 5.4, and can communicate with GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC satellite systems.
