You can choose the sound the car makes when driving slowly outside, which you can’t hear much inside. Driving in the city with Megane is quite comfortable: in Comfort it is very easy to turn the steering wheel, in sports it is noticeably stiff, which suits him well, otherwise his movements are a bit jittery due to the light steering wheel. Behind the wheel, you can really feel that the electric Megane is a smaller number than it appears at first. If we adjust the seat comfortably, we sit a little further from the steering wheel, and if the steering wheel is close enough, then the position of the foot is not the best due to the pedals. In a traditional Megane, the driving mode is much better than this.
We don’t sit high, but the beltline is high, and the rear window is narrow, so the view isn’t good. That’s why we also get a digital mirror if someone doesn’t trust a traditional mirror, parking radars, or a 360-degree camera system. But the electric Megane is small enough to fit in almost any parking space, and its 10.4-meter turning circle can’t be called big either.
The car moves perfectly, and has that block-like feel that I’ve probably never experienced in any Renault. There is no kink, or rattling while driving, and even when driving on the worst roads in Budapest, the chassis really doesn’t make a sound, which is a miracle. The tuning is perfect, it softens, but at the same time it is not too soft, the wheels are large, but they do not jerk on potholes and do not sway on cross ribs.
The harmony is particularly good, the weight of the Megane E-tech even with the larger battery is “only” 1.6 tons, which can be said to be especially good among electric cars. The much smaller Electric Corsa weighs 1,550 kg. It’s also assumed that this is why the undercarriage is in good alignment, it doesn’t come loose under it, and if I had to move it, it sure would spin well next to it. It’s a simple, easy-to-move car, solid and quiet enough, and the fact that it doesn’t produce that on smooth external roads, but here in Budapest, is really impressive.
The electric motor is tuned to feel powerful and comfortable, so despite its 220 horsepower, the start is smooth and comfortable. It can jump in sport mode, but even then it doesn’t burn the front wheels, it pulls healthy. With such battery and power, it accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds, and its top speed is 160 km / h, which is more than enough to drive dynamically. The steering harmony is great, it starts to creep quietly when you raise the brakes, the deceleration is also consistent, it is well executed, the braking force doses can be determined very precisely and precisely.
