According to advance booking data from the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), nearly 300,000 people will travel between October 27 and November 5. The most popular period is expected to be the first weekend of the autumn holidays. From Friday to Sunday, more than 300,000 guest nights in local accommodation were recorded, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) announced in its statement on Friday.
Based on guest night bookings, approximately 60 percent of travelers arrive in Hungary during the fall holidays, and 40 percent from all over the country. The most popular are couples’ cruises, nearly half of bookings are for two guests. More than half of guests spend three or more nights at properties, but many (30 percent) also plan to stay two nights.
According to MTÜ data, Budapest is the most popular among foreigners, with 70 percent of advance bookings in the capital coming from outside the country. The countryside is visited by more local guests, with 76 percent of visitors from the country coming to areas outside the capital during the fall holiday.
Based on advance bookings, the most popular destinations besides Budapest are Lake Balaton and the Matra Buk area, and there is also great interest in Buk Scharvar and Debrecen and its area. Among the settlements, after the capital, Hévíz and Zalakaros are the most popular, but at the same time, a large number of reservations for accommodation in Bük, Hajdúszoboszlo and Sárvar have also been received.
Based on NTAK data, the majority of guests will rest in hotels during the autumn holidays, and in both cases more than two-thirds of advance reservations were recorded in hotels. 4 out of 5 local guests choose a hotel for their convenience, while every second guest from abroad stays in a hotel. Every second booking came to a 4 star hotel.
According to currently available data, it is expected that most people will travel to Hungary from Austria, but many people will also arrive from Germany and the Czech Republic – just as the number of guest nights booked in advance from Italy and the UK is also important. The largest number of visitors to Budapest come from Italy and Spain, while the largest number of visitors to the countryside come from Austria and the Czech Republic – concluded MTÜ.
