Five Romanian businessmen who founded a civil airline called AirConnect wrote I love you. The company was registered last year, with its first flights taking off in May. The airline will operate both domestic and international flights, with the latter flying to Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and Montenegro.
I think that the feasibility of the project stems from the situation in Romania. It’s hard to believe, but nowadays the journey from Oradea to Constanta takes more than 12 hours by road, and this is just one example. In the current situation, of course, passengers can fly without any problems, provided that they adhere to the established rules. We don’t think a situation like Summer 2020 can happen again anytime soon, so hope “We are looking to the future,” said Teodor Constantinescu, CEO of AirConnect, Ziarul Financiar business newspaper.
The company, with a capital of one million euros, plans to invest more than four million euros this year. Most of the money goes to buy two ATR 42-600 aircraft. (Our picture shows this type – editor.) According to the CEO, this is an ideal model for domestic flights and relatively short-haul international flights. AirConnect plans to purchase three more 42-600 ATRs next year.
There are currently three domestic airlines in Romania: more than a decade ago Consistently unprofitable, state-owned TAROM, operates low-cost Blue Air flights and charter flights to Animawings. The municipalities of Oradea and Bihor County also co-founded an airline called Air Oradea with a capital of three million euros. Flights are scheduled to start this year, exclusively from Oradea airport to Bucharest and four unnamed foreign destinations.
