Canadian swimmer Mary Sophie Harvey claims she was drugged on the last night of the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, when they were celebrating their performance – BBC reports.
The 22-year-old athlete claims to have lost 4-6 hours of memory, suffered a rib sprain and a concussion. The Olympian’s body was covered in dozens of bruises.
Harvey said he’s never been ashamed, but he doesn’t want to let this incident define his character.
I was taken to the hospital, where doctors and psychologists examined me. They did their best
Harvey wrote on Instagram, adding that he’s been told it happens more often than we think, and that he’s lucky to get away with it.
Harvey, who won a bronze medal as a member of the Canadian 4x200m medley relay in Budapest, wrote: The number of such cases is growing dangerously high and has warned everyone to be careful.
I thought I was safe and that kind of thing would never happen to me, especially when I was surrounded by friends. But what happened
He wrote, adding that he wished someone had enlightened him about this earlier.
