OBA Statement on Safe Sport
The Ontario Basketball Association (“OBA”) has a primary obligation and responsibility to protect the health, safety and physical and mental well-being of every individual involved in the Ontario basketball community.
OBA takes situations involving misconduct or abuse very seriously. For this reason, OBA is committed to enacting and enforcing strong, clear and effective policies and processes to prevent and address all forms of misconduct or abuse.
OBA policies aim to promote a safe sporting environment in a way that allows for consistent, immediate, appropriate and meaningful action should any issues arise.
They also aim to prevent problems from arising in the first place by communicating expected standards of behavior.
If anyone would like to report an incident or concern about misconduct or abuse involving anyone associated with the OBA, including, but not limited to, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and parents of athletes, they may do so directly to the OBA, which will then This determines the appropriate forum and method for handling the complaint.
The OBA has the following commitments to an abuse-free sporting environment:
