At the end of October this year, Samsung filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission against the Bank of England of China, accusing the display manufacturer of using stolen intellectual property to produce OLED panels.
The relationship between the two companies has been stormy for some time. Two years ago, Samsung Display went out of its way to prevent wholesalers from selling Chinese OLED panels in the United States because they believed they were manufactured illegally using stolen technologies.
At the time, this was not a direct attack on the Bank of England, but in response, the competitor paid for the vendors. The American authorities cannot leave this unanswered either, as after the procedures, investigations began at the beginning of 2023.
After all this, the Bank of England launched several lawsuits against Samsung in China, but not only against Samsung Display, they also attacked the semiconductor and the division that produces imaging components, as well as the investment division. This is likely exactly why Samsung is directly targeting the Chinese company.
It is worth noting that BOE is constantly struggling to become one of Apple’s OLED display suppliers, but it can barely meet the strict quality control requirements. That’s why Apple had to use Samsung’s services again this year to produce iPhone 15 screens, and the Bank of England did not receive a single order from them.
